Artist & sculptor Roelna Louw was raised in South Africa, where she wrote and directed award winning children’s television programs. In 1993 she relocated to the USA, bought some clay and began telling stories in three dimensions.
It starts with a thought, a dream or a word. I research, compare, explore and disappear into a world of figure and form. The infinite possibilities delight me and I seek to capture the stories and soul within each piece.
I “unsculpt” to keep the beautiful imperfections and forms that happen organically. Most of my work is figurative and I add to the narrative by using stains, glazes, recycled objects and treasures found in nature.
With my art I hope to touch viewers in a way that inspires them to explore their own ideas and stories.
